Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Database Developer and Administrator in our Technology/Engineering department. In this role, you will ensure the performance, scalability, and security of our AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases. You will collaborate with engineers to design efficient systems, optimize queries, and maintain a scalable multi-tenant architecture, all while adhering to industry compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in database administration or development, preferably with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL
- Expertise in Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS (Aurora RDS, EC2, S3)
- Strong skills in query optimization using EXPLAIN plans and indexing
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration and performance tuning
- Experience designing scalable, normalized database schemas for multi-tenant systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and production incident debugging experience
- Familiarity with Aurora Serverless, Django, and React is a plus
- Knowledge of compliance standards such as SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
Responsibilities
- Monitor real-time database performance, including blocked queries and locks
- Manage and maintain user permissions for secure access control
- Develop and execute custom Django migrations when needed for performance
- Perform large-scale database edits to resolve data integrity issues
- Implement blue/green migration strategies for seamless schema changes
- Identify, analyze, and optimize slow queries using EXPLAIN plans and index tuning
- Tune PostgreSQL parameters for maximum efficiency
- Eliminate inefficient stored procedures and guide query optimization
- Assist in debugging production incidents and conducting RCA
- Recommend scaling strategies (vertical/horizontal) to meet demand
- Design and implement multi-tenant schemas with Sharding for scalability
- Maintain compliance logs and records for audits

- Experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL
- Advanced SQL and query optimization expertise
- Production incident debugging capability
- Understanding of multi-tenant architecture design
