Role Description
The BI Engineer is responsible for designing and managing the Looker semantic layer, developing dashboards and reports, and enabling self-service BI for business users. This role requires close collaboration with Data Engineers to ensure that the analytics datasets are well-modeled, performant, and governed. Strong SQL expertise is mandatory, along with hands-on experience in Looker LookML modeling, dashboard development, backend semantic layer, and analytics best practices.
Contract: 6 Months (Extendable)
Shift: Sunday to Thursday, KSA Time
Responsibilities
- Design and manage LookML models and semantic layers for optimized data and metrics.
- Develop and maintain interactive Looker dashboards and reports to meet business requirements.
- Enable self-service BI by designing user-friendly models and providing training to users.
- Optimize complex SQL queries and ensure data accuracy and performance in analytics workflows.
- Monitor Looker performance, manage content lifecycle, and continuously improve models based on usage.
Qualification
- Strong foundation in data analytics and business intelligence concepts
- Ability to work with large and complex datasets
- Understanding of data modeling and analytical workflows
- Experience working in enterprise or government-level data environments.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
Must Have
- 4+ years experience in Business Intelligence / Data Analytics role
- Expert-level SQL (CTEs, window functions, performance tuning)
- Hands-on experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or Looker)
- Experience integrating Teradata with Hadoop (Hive/HDFS) using QueryGrid
- Strong data modeling and schema design experience
- Analytical mindset with ability to solve ambiguous business problems
Nice to have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Power BI, Data Factory, OneLake)
- Programming skills in Python or R
- Experience using AI features within BI tools for insights
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and predictive analytics
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Synapse)
